the shins

As these first words fly from synaptic firings somewhere in my brain, through my nervous system and out my fingers onto this digital page, the Sun illumines Aquarius with Mercury and Venus dreaming of the future whilst lounging on the Dragon’s tail. Whenever the Sun is near the Dragon (RahuKetu/Nodes of the Moon) we know Eclipses are near.  The last was on January 31st, the next will be the 15th of February. The space between, the space we are currently, is what I like to call a dragon hole.

It is within these two-week windows when we can expect the unexpected.  One could argue life is filled with unexpected events, and I would ask: Did it happen around an Eclipse?  I have gathered hundreds of eclipse stories along my squiggly path–personally, from clients, from friends, even from The Darkside of the Moon–and from my experience, they show us in their strange light the change that needs to happen.

I have saying:

Stand strong with the Sun

Stand stronger with the Moon

Change with Eclipses

With the Sun beaming from Aquarius this entire eclipse season, it has literally made it hard to “stand strong” for me…  Whilst hanging from my pull-up bar, precariously at the top of a set up wooden stairs, I fell, and I fell hard.  Ever since I was a kid I didn’t trust the pull-up bars extended into door-frames or walls. Something about them made me uneasy. Maybe it was some future memory I had tapped into surrounded by Aquarian themes, who knows.  All I know is when it gave out, all my weight came down to the front of my shins on the top stair. I slid. I tumbled. I saw red.  I concluded all you need to know about taking down an opponent is a nice wack to the shins. The whole body fails, then falls.  And if you can’t support your weight, how on earth could you move forward.

It seems universally agreed upon that the shins relate to Aquarius.  As does everything else between the knee and ankle.  It’s always been an elusive rulership for me to understand…that is, until now.

Ancient soldiers used to wear greaves over this part of the body to protect these sensitive Aquarius limbs in battle.  For how would it be possible to move forward with the fight or the campaign if you couldn’t take any steps forward.  Jump ahead to today, where bionic limbs are here and evolving faster than even Moore’s Law (as an aside, I’ve seen nearly a dozen people with amazing bionic legs since the last Eclipse; Check out Hugh Herr’s TED talk).  Without our shins we couldn’t stand in Truth, we wouldn’t be able to jump ahead, run from the past or into the future, we would be robbed from our favorite asanas, unable to sit in any kind of lotus, we wouldn’t be human.  The complexity of our anatomy in this region transcends the scope of this article, but we can assume one thing: It’s connected to everything. Especially our progress moving forward.

Aquarius is fixed air. Without the proper circulation of ideas, it becomes stagnant.  This is what our friends and colleagues are for. And with perfect circulation and the wind prancing through our hair, we might be flying high. The Wright brothers knew this when they first took flight in 1903 with a Saturn/Mars conjunction in Aquarius.  If we are to move forward with excited strides we must question “our” ideas and be open to those around us. This is how innovation happens. This is precisely what I learned from my “accident.” How to move forward in a few areas with integrity and with the sky as my limit. Find it in your chart. Ask it important questions. Get excited.

  • One last note: Another amazing fact about our shins, is how fast they heal.  I was convinced I would be on crutches the night of the injury.  Yet, the next morning, I had a creeping suspicion I was the Wolverine.  I could walk fine! Only a scar and bruise to prove it happened. Now, I’m headed straight to the lair of the next dragon encounter on the 15th, the day my Apprenticeship begins again.  If you’re called to join on this magical journey, you can READ MORE HERE….
